The Thai New Year was celebrated at Pimalai as in previous years at the resort's poolside. One the most visible signs of this yearly celebration is the 'splashing of water' on people in the streets of Thailand. It goes on all day from dawn till dusk. It's usually far more than 'splashing' and in our experience anyone who ventures out is in for a good soaking and a liberal coating of perfumed powder on the face! The Hotel Guests were warned to avoid bringing cameras and cell phones and gathered at the pool for a "Dum Hua" ceremony, where the management and its staff were on hand to bid to those present all the best wishes for the New Year and to ask for their blessings! As a result we all had a joyful and memorable Songkran day & a very wet one too!
